René Zimny has taught graphic design in a Christian college context for more than a decade, developing and teaching courses in subjects such as branding, typography, user experience, publications, and issues in graphic design. He brings experience working as a designer in corporate and freelance settings to his work with students, preparing them for their own real-world careers and interactions with clients. His work also is influenced by his background as an international student and his early professional experience in higher education administration and healthcare marketing. Zimny’s passion for attention to detail, aesthetic harmony, and technical excellence show up in his pursuit of practical solutions to design problems and in his encouragement of students to exceed their own expectations.

Zimny’s expertise has been recognized through numerous regional and national awards both for his work and his students’ work. He has served as a juror for local and regional art shows, presented his work in exhibitions, and served as featured speaker on topics such as principles of design and branding. His undergraduate studies paired double majors in graphic design and communications, a combination which further developed his commitment to communicating well through strategic design solutions.

He lives in Hoover with his wife and two sons and enjoys cooking, surprising students with his taste for alt rock music and spending time exploring the outdoors with his family.
